Pausing with a Poem - Magic in the Air

My fourth poetry book seeks to add depth and joy to daily life.

This fourth collection, which took nearly three years to write, has a different focus to the preceding Angels trilogy which lightheartedly charts my journey through widowhood. With these poems I seek to capture  magic moments which have touched my life. I invite readers to pause with a cup of tea or coffee, and take a few seconds to reflect on their own experiences.

The poems offer an opportunity for a moment of calm and a sense of wellbeing in this fraught and fast-paced world. A pause in our hectic lives to remember that existence is not always defined by visibility, nor significance by permanence.

A profound insight, a philosophical musing, an unexplained vibe, a natural phenomenon, divine timing, a flash of mystery - all are described in this collection of poems, bringing a depth and joy to daily life that we rarely have time to savour.

Living With Joy

Living with Joy forms a trilogy with Walking with Angels and Dancing with Love. The three poetry collections, all of which can be read independently of the others, describe Claire-Louise's journey through widowhood, at first surviving, then learning how to thrive, and finally finding contentment. Readers often say they find poems in Claire-Louise's books which truly resonate with them. Her light hearted, accessible yet profound poems touch their minds and hearts.

Drawing on her observations and experiences of life and the natural world, this third poetry collection describes the continuation of Claire-Louise's journey. It focuses on how she learned to find joy in moments of challenge, of calm, or of serendipity, moments we can all relate to as we go about our daily lives.

Walking With Angels

Walking with Angels, published as an ebook in 2014 and printed in 2015, was written during a unique four year journey taken by the author, in which she explores the concepts of love, loss, hope, gratitude, spirituality and courage, all featured in sharp relief.

The poems’ appeal lies in their wit, their masterful use of understatement, and the poignant contrast of the light-hearted with the profound. A powerful combination of simplicity and depth engages us to think about living life to the full while we can. Walking with Angels is a book to hold in your hands, close to your heart.

Dancing With Love

Dancing with Love is the sequel to Walking with Angels and was published in May 2019, six years after the author was widowed. It describes her journeys of discovery – of new loves, new places, new experiences, and of herself. Yet through all her adventures, near or far, in or out of love, someone was always close by and it was to him, Claire-Louise always returned. Entertaining yet compassionate, these poems are about life after death in more ways than one.

A Poem From 'Living with Joy'

My poem  'Song of the Trees' was inspired by a walk in leafy South London.

SONG of the TREES

Trees communicate?

That sounds wrong

Yet while out walking

I heard their song –

‘We know, we know’

Swished the sycamores

‘We can sense your fear

Seeping through our bark’

‘We are listening’

Lilted the limes

‘Our leaves, fluttering in the breeze,

Are finely tuned’

‘We are with you’

Wept the willows

‘Your reflection in the water

Says it all’

‘Be still’

Breathed the beeches

‘Come and rest awhile

Under our boughs’

‘Have courage’ murmured the mighty oak

‘Be calmed by our canopies

Be grounded by our roots

Take comfort from the wisdom of the trees

It is not the first time and will not be the last

We hear and we are here.’

A Poem From 'Walking With Angels'

The Grandmother

If everyone were half as nice

As Mrs Mary (Grandma) Price

The world would be a better place

There’d be more hope for the human race

For she gives out such sound advice

Does Mrs Mary (Grandma) Price.

Young and old and rich and poor

Beat a path to her front door

To hear her wisdom, shed a tear.

With words of solace in their ear

Loads are lightened in a trice

By Mrs Mary (Grandma) Price.

Where to find her? What to do?

Look around, a gran’s near you

Invite her for a cup of tea

Tell her your troubles and you’ll see

She’ll give you just as good advice

As Mrs Mary (Grandma) Price.

A Poem From 'Dancing With Love'

Lost In London

Today is a day

Like any other

Full of random things

Some significant

Others trivial

I lost my blue cardigan

At Victoria station

My friend lost his way

Near Westminster Bridge

A lady lost her dog

In Battersea Park

My son lost no time

Crossing London

To submit his thesis

Right on the deadline

His Dad would have been so proud

I wish he was here

To share and to care

About all these random things.
